D-backs' Brandon Pfaadt exits game with left ankle contusion

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Brandon Pfaadt left in the fifth inning Saturday night at San Diego after getting hit in the left ankle with a line drive.
Pfaadt exited with Arizona trying to protect a 2-1 lead after he was struck by a drive off the bat of Padres first baseman Luis Arraez. The play left runners on first and third with one out, but Kevin Ginkel came on to get two strikeouts and end the inning.
The team announced that Pfaadt sustained a left ankle contusion.
In his second major league season, Pfaadt began the night 3-6 with a 4.28 ERA in 17 starts. He had a career ERA of 4.97 in 36 games, all but one as a starter.
In five postseason starts as the Diamondbacks made it from a wild-card berth to the World Series, Pfaadt went 0-1 with a 3.27 ERA.
Arizona won the game 7-5 in 10 innings.
